While gambling is a form of entertainment for most people, for others it is a devastating medical condition. Most people are unaware of the dangers of problem gambling or that it is a treatable medical condition.
A gambling addiction can have the same devastating consequences as alcohol and drug addictions, destroying families, finances, careers and lives. For some people, the desire to gamble becomes so strong it overtakes personal values and results in spending money needed for daily lives, borrowing money which can’t be repaid, and even committing crimes.
I am playing for longer periods than I had planned on.
I am not able to stop thinking about gambling.
I am lying about my gambling to family and friends.
I am borrowing and stealing money from family and friends to gamble.
I am spending more money than I wanted to spend on gambling.
Gambling helps me escape from my personal problems.
